Barbara A. (Sweeney) Carey of Melrose, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital. She was 81 years old. Born December 16, 1928 in Medford, a daughter to the late David C. & Ethel (Riley) Sweeney, she was raised in Medford and lived there until 1984. She then moved to Melrose and worked as an Insurance Broker for a few years and finally as an ombudsman with Mystic Valley Elder Services for 5 years. Barbara was proud and set in her ways. She enjoyed walking her dog, reading and the Boston Celtics. She was the loving mother of Susan M. Carey of Lawrence & Richard A. Carey, Jr. & his wife Diane of Hanover. Cherished grandmother of Sue Ellen Carey-Starner & her husband Adam of Wilmington, Mark J. Carey & Eric A. Carey, both of Hanover. Caring sister of Helen Shaw of Chelmsford, Kathleen Smith of Andover & the late David Sweeney & Irene Antonucci. Also survived by her devoted dog & companion "Roxie". A Funeral Mass in her memory will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 7th in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 11:30AM. Family & friends respectfully invited. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Arrangements by The Gately Funeral Home of Melrose.
